I would prefer not to upgrade because I would have to upgrade all my users to 2008, and I want to conduct further testing of 2008 before upgrading anyone. I've read that some users resolved many issues they had with Office 2004 in Leopard by upgrading to the 2008 version of Office.

I upgraded the laptop to 10.5.2 and installed the keyboard firmware update 1.0 which I was informed by the Mac that is was needed. The tech even said sorry that he had to refer me to the other guys. What I (think I:confused:) need is somthing like the command option (as in the Button-widget), which. Im currently using an Entry-widget, but havent been able to access the individual characters AS THEY ARE ENTERED. It was funny that they told me to contact the other guys. I am writing a small tkinter-app involving user keyboard-input, and want to control the range of acceptable input-characters. They recommended contacting Microsoft for support on the issue with office, which I would have to pay for the support call. Apple support had me reset the PMU/SMU/SMC and PRAM/NVRAM, which helped for a day then the problem came back. Once you switch back to Excel from another application the user can enter data again until the problem occurs again. If you switch to another application you can type. The mouse works and you can move between cells with the arrows but you can't enter numbers or characters into a cell.
While entering data in Excel every once in a while, sometimes every other entry, none of the data he enters will go in.
